From the second Punky escaped from his momma, he was ours. I say escaped because he wiggled inside of his bubble and got away from Izzy Bell.
Jeremy had to release him from his predicament since Izzy now had another pupper to tend to.
He was something. Had tri color markings and a beautiful triangle shape on the back of his scruff.
Punkin Head did not like being contained! He hadn’t even opened his eyes and was escaping! We had the whole litter in a shallow tote to help Izzy Bell keep them from getting lost while we were working. Every time we took our eyes off of them.. every time… he would be gone!
One, two, three…..eight..gone! Always Punkin Head! Under the bed, in the closet, once in the hallway!! His eyes weren’t opened. Did I mention that?
It only got worse as he got older. We couldn’t find a kennel or carrier to hold him. There are still a few mysteries that we will never solve. Houdini truly should have been his name.
I used (as recent as this morning) to say that Punkin Head was a perfect blend of his mom, Izzy and dad, Stupid. Unfortunately he got the not so good parts.
Izzy is a neurotic mess most of the time. Anxious and scared of butterfly floofs.
Stupid was, well, as a rescue from dog fighters (11 weeks old) with an infamous lineage I was told, he was strong and brave and a little over protective. Scary sometimes.
Punkin was nervous, jumpy, nippy and could be aggressive. But he was also the sweetest , most loyal and gentle with us and our family. He raised many rescues (even cats) and grew up around teen agers that grew up and brought their children, our grandbabies into our home.
Punkin Head profoundly touched our lives and our souls. He taught us patience and the importance of body language and tone of voice, and unwavering love even on bad days.
We were honored to be his one and only family. To be loved and protected by one of Gods creatures is truly a gift that I work daily to be worthy of.
Punkin Head I love you.
