We found Riley as a puppy at a Canine Companions rescue adoption event. At 11 months old he was very quiet, laying by himself unlike the other puppies. I was drawn to him by the sad look in his eyes. At home I had a Great Dane, Gracie, with one blue eye, one brown eye who was very laid back. Riley’s right eye was half blue and half brown. Something told me they would be best of friends…and they were.
For the next 12 years Riley enjoyed the comfiest beds, tons of treats, chasing squirrels in the yard and playing with tennis balls. When Gracie passed away Riley welcomed Lacey, a new Great Dane, and they quickly became friends.
He loved opening up his gifts on Christmas, tearing apart every stuffed animal within minutes. The quiet withdrawn puppy became a favorite among family and friends. Never destructive, never mean spirited, always loving he was the best boy.
