Sandy was a shelter dog in need of rescuing, but she rescued me instead. I’d lost my Bijoux (Shepard mix) in 2010 and had a boat load of cats at the house, so I wasn’t really looking for another pet. But I’d always kept an eye out for rescue dogs on the Michigan Humane Society’s website. I was perusing through adoptable dogs when I came across her cute little face staring at the camera. I immediately thought she was the cutest thing ever! I kept scrolling and didn’t anymore about her. I was driving on the freeway and just happen to pass the exit for the MHS, and decided to turn around just to take a look. I wasn’t going to adopt that day, I was just looking. I walked in and was greeted by a staff member, and I told him that I just wanted to look around at the dogs, because who doesn’t like to look at dogs? I walked in the ‘pen’ and there she was! I immediately said, “You’re still here?!” She started wagging her tail and jumped up for me to pet her. The staff member asked if I wanted a private area to sit with for a minute, and I did! As soon as she got into the room, and I sat down, she jumped onto my lap and licked me on the chin. That’s when I knew she was my dog, and I was her person! We rocked life out for 12 years! She loved sleeping next to me, I loved waking up with her paws in my ears, mouth or her butt in my face! She adored car rides, and hanging out the window or on my lap. I gave her peanut butter as a morning snack! I knew her like the back of my hand she knew me! When I had to spend a week in the hospital, I missed her the most. She was so happy to see me after I was released, and I promised I’d never be away from her that long again! She was the best dog I ever had, and there’ll be no replacing her. I love her still and always will!
